August. The first of August.

A few years ago I had a vision of a band that would be called ‘August’ – ‘to inpsire awe; majestic’ and thought that would be a great name, and a great ‘vision statement’ for a (worship) band. I still have the domain (www.august.co.nz) but as yet, no band. There’s a few songs there, and lots of lyrics…

The years keeping coming, and there’s always August.

Hmmm

Myspace. And a band of younger brothers. How is it that I am inspired to write by html and email and connection and a collection of words. And incorrect grammar. It doesnt seem to matter but my button was already being pushed; another movie; another documentary in which the screenplay writers talk about ‘hows’ and ‘whys’ and it just gets me wondering.

Again.

And if I was to get to it, my point is not so much pointing, but questioning:

Is somebody reading this? And shouldn’t I be writing…?

When we were in San Francisco, the ever-present Starbucks were not only a source of pleasant-tasting slightly overpriced caffeine, but the much needed journey into one of them just happened to provide an inspiring moment for me: They had a campaign going called ‘the way I see it’, and had various quotes on the sides of their coffee cups – to aid customers in the generation of conversation, one would assume. And as with any marketing campaign worth its salt, it’s created a little controversy.

Well the quote on my coffee cup was very, very cool. So cool I pointed my video camera at it and filmed it, and as such, there’s now a capture from the footage on my desktop. Talk about dedication!

I think after an introduction, I’d better get on and tell you the quote:

“When I began writing, the words that inspired me were these: ‘A writer is someone who has written today.’ If you want to be a writer, what’s stopping you?” J.A. Jance, crime novelist

Very appropriate material for a blog, don’t you think?

My mate Joe sent me an email about his blog which he has just started. That email, and blog, reminded me that I love writing, that I love sharing my thoughts with, well, the air – the space out there – and whoever happens to be listening.

I’ve been up to a lot since my last blog, and I haven’s said a word about it. Shocking.

I have posted quite a bit at the U2 New Zooland Forums, and also started a new ‘Vertigo Auckland’ blog to be a bit of a portal for the various events and thoughts surrounding the Auckland U2 gig. What makes that even more curious is that I won’t even be at the gig. I was, however, at the New York gig, Madison Square Garden, November 22, and I must tell more about that soon.

I’ve just come back from Paris too – something else to write about.

Stay tuned.
